Week of April 19-21

Welcome back from the break! We have only three weeks left in the marking period, and only six weeks left in the school year. Please see me during office hours if you are concerned about your grade.

Extra Credit for 2nd and 6th period: There is an AP English study session next Saturday, April 29th. If you attend, you will receive thirty points of extra credit on your next essay. Wednesday

Periods 1, 5 and 7:

Classwork: Reading Logs due. Socratic Seminar on Henrietta Lacks.

Homework: 10 pages of Independent Reading, and one response on a Writing Strategy from your book. If you didn't finish in class, finish your notes on the socratic seminar handout to turn in tomorrow!

Period 2:

Classwork: Review multiple choice quiz from the week before the break.

Homework: 10 pages of Independent Reading, and one response on a Writing Strategy from your book.

Period 6:

Classwork: Reading Logs due. Socratic Seminar on texts and concepts we have studied this year.

Thursday

Periods 1, 5 and 7:

Classwork: Read p. 60-62 of Henrietta Lacks. KWL on connections and predictions. Quickwrite: How does the author develop a central idea in p. 60-62?

Homework: 10 pages of Independent Reading, and one response on a Writing Strategy from your book.

Periods 2 and 6:

Classwork: Begin Rhetorical Analysis essay on Chavez. Complete p. 4-9 of the Rhetorical Analysis packet.

Homework: 10 pages of Independent Reading, and one response on a Writing Strategy from your book.

Friday

Periods 1, 5 and 7:

Classwork: Read p. 62-66 of Henrietta Lacks and take notes on Point of View. Make a T-Chart showing the different points of view on the question, "Who owns the cells?" One side: The Scientists, the other side: The Patients.

Quickwrite: Do you agree with the Supreme Court's decision on p. 65-66? Why or why not? Cite evidence from each side's point of view in your response.

Homework: 10 pages of Independent Reading, and one response on a Writing Strategy from your book.

Periods 2 and 6:

Classwork: Complete p. 9-10 of the Rhetorical Analysis packet. Outline your second body paragraph.
