Week of March 13-17

Hello everyone,

The marking period ends this Friday, March 17th, and parent/teacher conferences are next week on Thursday (after school) and Friday (afternoon). Please check your grade on Pupilpath and make sure you are up to date on all of your assignments! Your teachers are all available during office hours (4th period) on Wednesday and Thursday if you need to speak to them about makeup work.

Monday

Periods 1, 5, and 7:

Classwork: Gallery Walk of final drafts of Injustice Letters. Complete reflection and vote for your favorite letter for each category.

Homework: 10 Pages of Independent Reading, and write a response on one Writing Strategy from your book.

Periods 2 and 6:

Classwork: Read and score sample synthesis essays using the scoring guidelines and rubric. Then, score your own essay using the rubric and compare to Ms. Atwill's score for your essay. Identify what you will do to improve your score next time.

Homework: 10 Pages of Independent Reading, and write a response on one Writing Strategy from your book.

Tuesday: No School, Happy Snow Day!

Wednesday

Periods 1, 5, and 7:

Classwork: Read pages 1-6 from The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Begin KWL charts based on our reactions and questions to the text.

Homework: 10 pages of Independent Reading, and write a response on one writing strategy from your book AND look up one question from the W section of your KWL charts and record what you learned--even if you still don’t have a complete answer. Don't forget to include your sources!

Periods 2 and 6:

Classwork: Review Multiple Choice Strategies. Complete questions 1-13 from the new multiple choice packet.

Homework: Complete questions 14-17 from multiple choice packet.

Thursday

Periods 1, 5, and 7:

Classwork: Read p. 7-14 of Henrietta Lacks. Add to KWL charts and discuss how the author draws connections between different events.

Homework: Write ½ page: How does Skloot unfold events in this text and what connections does she draw among these events?

Periods 2 and 6:

Classwork: Complete questions 31-43 from multiple choice packet.

Homework: 10 Pages of Independent Reading, and write a response on one Writing Strategy from your book. Multiple Choice Quiz tomorrow! Target Score: 7/12

Friday

Periods 1, 5, and 7:

Classwork:  Read p. 15-19 of Henrietta Lacks. Add to KWL charts and discuss the specific word choices the author uses to achieve her purpose.

Homework: 10 Pages of Independent Reading, and write a response on one Writing Strategy from your book. (Reading Logs Due Monday) AND bring in three facts about the Tuskegee Syphilis Studies.

Periods 2 and 6:

Classwork: Multiple Choice Quiz

Homework: 10 Pages of Independent Reading, and write a response on one Writing Strategy from your book. (Reading Logs Due Monday)
